   Following her refit in Southern Ireland, the "George and Ivy Swanson" returned to Sheerness on the 8th June following a four day passage, the Lifeboat resumed her station duties on the 10th June.

1st Aid News

9 members of the Sheerness Crew have just completed the RNLI First Aid at sea course

 

The Station's Lifeboat 'George and Ivy Swanson' went into the Southern Ireland Boatyard of

Carrolls at the beginning of January for her 5 yearly upkeep refit, the Lifeboat is expected to be

completed in late May.

 

Passage News

The Sheerness Crew brought the relief Lifeboat 14-22 ( ON1226) from Poole to Sheerness on the 22nd December prior to the station boat going in for refit.

 

           Sheerness New ILB Named

           On a warm sunny day, the new Sheerness IB 1 was named "Eleanor"by it's benefactor

           Phyllis Wright in memory of her sister, during a simple and moving service, followed by a

           short demonstration afloat and a reception at the Lifeboathouse for the guests.

Sheerness Lifeboat Station recieves new IB 1

Sheerness Lifeboat Station recieved the new Inshore lifeboat D-662 "ELEANOR" on Weds 27th Sept; following crew training and familarisation with the new boat, she was placed on service Weds Eve, many thanks to the Div Base Staff for their encouragement.

7 members of the crew have just completed two weeks training on Radar and Electronic Navigation equipment. All the crew passed successfully, thanks to the RNLI instructor Peter White.

 

Sunday 2nd July 2006

The Trent class Lifeboat and D-Class lifeboat were both on display again at the Station's Open Day in Queenborough hbr, in really hot sunshine a large number of visitors visited the boat's and talked to the crew about the work of the RNLI, unfortunately the ALB had a launch mid afternoon (see services), ashore the public were entertained by the Lifeboat Guild with souveniers and other amusements, many thanks to all who participated.

 

21st November 2005

Station Lifeboat "George & Ivy Swanson"  14-13 returned to Sheerness following her "Prism" at Falmouth. The passage took 3 days leaving Falmouth on the 18th & arriving at Sheerness on the 20th

TUESDAY 13th September 2005

Sheerness All Weather Lifeboat along with Lifeboat's from Margate and Whitstable took part in a evaluation exercise, looking into the possibilities of how to evacuate personnel from the Wind Turbines on the Kentish Flat's Windfarm site. SUNDAY 21st August 2005
Sheerness All Weather Lifeboat and D-Class Inshore Lifeboat were open to the public at Queenborough Harbour  for most of the day, with brilliant sunshine the day was a great success with a steady influx of families visiting the boat's, the Lifeboat guild kept the public amused ashore with a variety of events, stalls and display's. Many thanks to all those who participated to achieve an enjoyable day.

THURSDAY 30th June 2005

The Sheerness All Weather Lifeboat took part in the CG Evacuation Exercise at Southend Pier, along with RAF Helicopters and CG Helicopter, Lifeboats from Southend and Gravesend, Police Boats and Local council craft. The Sheerness Lifeboat evacuated 88 persons from the pierhead and the exercise was a total success with everyone involved getting a great deal of experience from the exercise.

THURSDAY 3rd March 2005, 10 members of the Sheerness Lifeboat Crew have just completed a First Aid at Sea course, learning new skills in handling and treating casualties at sea, on the last night of their course, they put their new skills into practice in a casualty scenario. The Project Exhibition, SS Montgomery and Sea forts Presentation on Friday 15th. October 2004 and on January 13th this year was a great success with a full attendance. The Project Redsand team would like to thank the organizers, Michael Dolan and Mrs Ann Pilcher for their hard work. We also wish to express our grateful thanks to the members of staff of The Sheerness Public Library who gave their time and resources without charge.
